Bring your Grasshopper number to Ready

Your business number comes with you. Ready runs the transfer with our carrier from start to finish — this guide covers what to gather from Grasshopper so the port goes through the first time.

Before you start

Before you start

Grasshopper releases numbers from paid, active accounts with a zero balance. Free-trial numbers can’t be ported — upgrade to a paid plan first. Beyond that there’s no waiting period: a paid account in good standing can port out at any time.

Ready, as the receiving carrier, starts and manages the whole transfer. Grasshopper’s role is to hand over your account records and release the number — they can’t approve, expedite, or cancel the port on your behalf.

What you’ll need

What you’ll need

Account number (Customer ID)

In the Grasshopper app under Menu → Settings → Account information. Usually 10 digits — often the same as your main Grasshopper number.

Primary PIN

A 4-digit transfer PIN, set or viewed in the app under Account information → Primary PIN. It also arrives with your CSR when Grasshopper issues one.

Customer Service Record (CSR)

Request it from Grasshopper support by chat or phone. Allow up to 72 hours — it’s the authoritative record of the name and address on your account.

Billing address

Exactly as Grasshopper has it on file. Small mismatches — St vs Street, a missing suite number — are the most common cause of rejected ports.

Recent bill

A PDF or screenshot of your latest Grasshopper statement as supporting proof of ownership.

Generate your PIN late, not early

Transfer PINs can expire. Set or reset your Primary PIN shortly before you hand your details to Ready, not weeks ahead.

How the port works

How the port works

1

Confirm your account is portable

The Grasshopper account must be paid, active, and carry no outstanding balance. Unsure about a specific number? Grasshopper’s live chat can confirm portability in minutes.

2

Request your CSR from Grasshopper

Contact Grasshopper support and ask for your Customer Service Record. It can take up to 72 hours to arrive and includes your PIN when one is required. Everything on the port paperwork must match this record exactly.

3

Send your details to Ready

Share the checklist above with your Ready onboarding contact. We prepare the Letter of Authorization (LOA) for you to sign — matched against your CSR, since that single check prevents nearly every rejection.

4

Ready files the port with our carrier

We submit the request and track it through to completion. Grasshopper doesn’t send status updates — all progress reporting comes from Ready, and we confirm the moment your number is live.

5

Keep using your number throughout

Your number stays fully active on Grasshopper until the instant the port completes. There’s no gap in service — calls and texts simply start arriving in Ready.

6

Close out your Grasshopper account

Porting out does not cancel your Grasshopper subscription. Once we confirm the transfer, contact Grasshopper to remove the ported number or close the account — otherwise billing continues. Any other numbers you keep there stay active.

Texting: SMS registration resets

If your number has carrier SMS registration (A2P/10DLC) with Grasshopper, it’s removed automatically the moment a port-out begins — and it doesn’t come back even if the port is cancelled. Ready handles your new registration during onboarding so texting is set up before your campaigns depend on it.

Common questions

Common questions

Will my number stop working during the transfer?

No. It stays active on Grasshopper until the port completes, then cuts over to Ready. Callers never hit a dead line.

Can Grasshopper speed things up?

No — the receiving provider controls the process and timing. With accurate information, expect one to two weeks.

Who tells me when it’s done?

Ready does. Grasshopper doesn’t send completion notices — we confirm as soon as the number is live on our network.

Can I cancel a port after it’s submitted?

Only Ready, as the requesting provider, can withdraw an in-flight port — just tell us. After completion, reversing it means a brand-new port in the other direction.

Does porting cancel my Grasshopper billing?

No. The account keeps billing until you cancel it with Grasshopper support after we confirm the transfer.

What most often delays a port?

Mismatched details: a billing address that differs from the CSR, an expired PIN, or an unpaid balance. Requesting the CSR first and copying it exactly avoids all three.
